The franchise sector in Australia is growing rapidly. Currently, there are approximately 1,025 franchise concepts, 91% of which originally created in Australia.

The growth rate of franchise systems from 2006 to 2008 was 14.6 percent. At the same time, the growth rate of franchise units was 15.4 percent. There are estimated 69 900 units operating in business format franchise systems in Australia. Most of these would be classified as small enterprises. The total sales turnover for the entire franchising sector was estimated to be 130 bln USD.
